How to clean ugg boots that got wet?

We've all had the unfortunate experience of sitting in a bucket while our outdoor boots get soaked. Thankfully, it's not too hard to clean ugg boots to get them back into shape again! Here's what you need for your ugg boots:

-Sink with hot, sudsy water.

-A bar of soap (a natural one is the best), and a handful of paper towels or old t-shirts.

-A ziplock baggie.

-Lint free cloths if you're feeling fancy!

1) Fill your sink with hot water and add about half a bar of soap into the mix.

2) Add your ugg boots to the water, make sure they are fully submerged.

3) Let the ugg boots soak for at least 24 hours, depending on how badly they've dried out.

4) When you're ready to wash them, gently remove any excess dirt from the bottom of your uggs with a soft-bristled brush and a lint-free cloth.

5) In your sink, pour in about 1/4 cup of dish soap into warm water (not hot).

6) Gently place your ugg boots into the sink and let them soak for anywhere from 20 minutes to two hours (depending on how dirty they are).

7) While you wait, use a cloth to clean any crud or dirt that stubbornly stuck around on the outside of your uggs.

8) When they're done soaking, remove them from the sink and use your brush to gently scrub away any leftover gunk, then rinse them off in warm water.

9) Lay your boots on top of paper towels or old t-shirts (you can get these from the dollar store  or most grocery stores for cheap), and allow them to air dry overnight.

That's it! You're done. Now you have nice clean ugg boots to wear again! :)

What happens if Uggs get wet?

We all know that moisture is just not good for your favorite pair of Uggs. But what actually happens if they get wet?

Truth is, the wetness can cause damage to some parts of the shoe. Your Uggs will most likely stay dry inside, but the minute water seeps in through any openings on the outside, it can start to break down different materials on or in your shoes. Weatherproofing sprays come with a warning label: "Do not use on suede or nubuck." It's important to keep in mind that these materials are also more prone to stains and discoloration when coming into contact with water.

Here's a closer look at what happens when water gets in:

1. The rain picks up dirt, dust and other pollutants. Once inside, it can cause a mildewy or mouldy smell that you might not notice at first. The moisture can also cause dilation of the velcro and uppers of your shoes; these are materials that generally stretch or shrink as the shoes age (the material within the shoes is called 'molecularly fluidised bedding'). The area where they meet – called 'the tongue' – becomes more prone to tears and tears often occur as people wear their shoes more often.
